Look at the following pictures and see it you can figure out the symbolic meaning of each dish. TB-Text Food Symbolism In China, foods are given particular meanings, so that a type of food can only be eaten by some specific individuals in certain occasions, or must be eaten on specific occasions. Usually, an honored guest will be served a snapper’s head or shell to hail him and show warm welcome in some districts. In certain occasions, the food will be more symbolic than ever. Take the Lunar New Year for example, which is symbolic of abundance and wealth to have plenty to eat. It is the start of spring --- a perfect time to have your New Year wishes come true! What a good way to usher in happiness, prosperity and health by enjoying “auspicious food” with family and friends. Thus, in a sense, the food served on the Eve of the Lunar New Year is usually full of symbolism. Besides, the food served on wedding is also full of symbolism. TB-Text Noodles, known as chang shou mian are the symbol of longevity in Chinese culture. It is a wish for good fortune --- Good Luck, Prosperity, Longevity, Happiness and Abundance --- is central to the Chinese way of life.
