Abstract: Collaborative applications with a service-oriented architecture tend to be highly heterogeneous, dynamic, and
flexible. This situation demands the participants adjust their services dynamically to adapt the changes of cooperative
environments and their requirements. A role concept was used to compose the business services of agents in a
large-granularity approach. Then, a fast and convenient role matching approach was proposed and the mechanism was
explored to implement the service coordination dynamically through playing different roles by agents. Further more, a
practical example is shown to demonstrate this approach. The result of the experiment and the qualitative analysis represent
that role-based approach promotes the quality and degree of service reuse greatl
