Chinas space industry Starting from 1956, Chinese space industry has realized great achievements. Here is a timetable of the countrys important space industry. October 8, 1956: The Fifth Academy of the National Defense Ministry -- the countrys first rocket research institution – was founded, symbolizing the birth of the Chinese space industry. April 24, 1970: First artificial Earth satellite -- Dong Fang Hong-1 Satellite -- was launched at Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center as China joins the former Soviet Union, America, France and Japan as the fifth country to launch satellites. October 15, 2003: The launch of its first manned aircraft -- Shenzhou 5 -- sent one astronaut into space. October 24, 2007: The first unmanned lunar orbiter -- Change 1-- was launched, making China the fifth country to master this technology. September 25, 2008: The Shenzhou VII spacecraft carrying?three crew members was launched by a Long March 2F (CZ-2F) rocket. On 27 September, Zhai Zhigang, wearing a Chinese-developed Feitian space suit, conducted a 22-minute space walk, the first ever for a Chinese astronaut. Dong Fang Hong I (Red East1) Dong Fang Hong I (Red East1) China launched its first satellite Dong Fang Hong I (DFH I) to earth orbit on April 24, 1970, becoming the fifth country in the world to independently launch satellite following the USSR, USA, France and Japan. Shenzhou 5 Shenzhou5 manned spaceship indigenously(国产地) developed by China, was launched into space at 9:00 am (Beijing Time) on October 15, 2003 from Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. It was Chinas first manned spaceflight mission. And this launch made China the third nation in the world to independently develop manned spaceflight, after Russia and the United States. Tiangong-1 Tiangong-1 is a rendezvous and docking（交会和对接） target spacecraft of Chinas manned space engineering project. Adopting a new design and a lot of new technology, Tiangong-1 consists of an experiment module （模块）and a support module, which is lik
