Unit11 Brake System Service Procedures 11.1 Brake System 11.2 Honda CR-V (2007, Engine Type: L4,2.4L) Repair Manual 11.3 ABS 11.4 ABS System DTC Idetification 11.1 Brake System The brake system is the most important system in cars. If the brakes fail, the result can be disastrous. Brakes are actually energy conversion devices, which convert the kinetic energy (momentum) of the vehicle into heat energy. When stepping on the brakes, the driver commands a stopping force ten times as powerful as the force that puts the car in motion. The brake system can exert thousands of pounds of pressure on each of the four brakes. 下一页 返回 As is shown in Figure 11-1, the brake system is composed of the following basic components. The “master cylinder” which is located under the hood, and is directly connected to the brake pedal, converts the mechanical pressure of the drivers foot into hydraulic pressure. Steel “brake lines and flexible “brake hoses connect the master cylinder to the “slave cylinders” located at each wheel. Brake fluid, specially designed to work in extreme condition, fills the system. “Shoes” and “pads are pushed by the slave cylinders to contact the “drum” and “rotors thus causing drag, which (hopefully) slows the car. 返回 上一页 11.1 Brake System 11.2.1 Hydraulic Brake System Brake Hoses and Steel Lines: To Remove: Disconnect the negative battery cable. Raise and safely support the vehicle. Remove any wheel and tire assemblies necessary for access to the particular line you are removing. Thoroughly clean the surrounding area at the joints to the disconnected (Figure 11-2). 返回 下一页 11.2 Honda CR-V Repair Manual Place a suitable drain pan under the connection to be disconnected. Using two line wrenches (one to hold the connection and one to turn the fitting), disconnect the hose or line to be replaced. Disconnect the other end of the line or hose, moving the drain pan if necessary. Always use a line wrench to avoid damaging the fitting. Disconnect any
