General guidelines for writing a research proposal Generally, a research proposal should contain all the key elements involved in the research process and include sufficient information for the readers to evaluate the proposed study. All research proposals must address the following questions: General guidelines for writing a research proposal (1) What do you plan to accomplish? (2) Why do you want to do it? (3) How are you are going to do it?
