Supervisor________________(Signature) Abstract: In Hemingway’s works, there is a typical type of image that is called Code Hero. Code Hero, which means perseverance and never giving up, has been reflected in Hemingway’s works. As his saying goes, “Born?not?to?be?defeated,?one?can?be?destroyed,?but?can?not?be?beat” Simpleness, conciseness, nature constitute the basic characteristics of Hemingways language and style. He abandoned painstakingly elegant and redundant embellishment. Just as his hero and his spirit of Code Hero, this style associated with his life experiences and the background two World Wars closely. So, in this thesis, I will illustrate the factors that shaped Hemingway’s code hero and the main characteristics of code hero. His life experiences and two World Wars have had greatly impact on his personality and writing style. They helped Hemingway to shape the image of code hero gradually.
