Corresponding aut hor: ZHANG Baoyan, professor, Email: baoyanzhang @ hotmail. com) Abstract: Nonylphenol ( NP for short ) and diethanolamine w ere used as raw materials to synthesize one cationic and four amphoteric asphalt emulsifiers. The structure of emulsifiers was in estigated by FTIR. The effecti e content of reaction products was determined by chemical titration. Emulsifiers synthesized w ere used for preparing emulsified asphalt . The performance w as tested, including emulsifying effecti eness, storage stability, mixing stability, normal iscosities, asphalt content, residues on screening and the property of w rapping coarse aggregate. T he results demonstrated that the four emulsifiers ha e good properties. One of them can be used as a moderatesetting asphalt emulsifier; the others can be used as slowsetting asphalt emulsifiers.
