University of Alaska Anchorage January 2005 The Alaska Partnership for Teacher Enhancement would like to wish you and your family a very happy, healthy, and successful New Year! Cultural Awareness Workshops APTE and the College of Education are co-sponsoring two, one-day “Cultural Awareness Workshops” for the staff and faculty of the College of Education and the College of Arts and Sciences at the Alaska Native Heritage Center on January 18th and 19th, 2005. These workshops will feature speakers from the Center as well as recognized Elders, Culture/Tradition Bearers and Artists/Performers who are leaders in their respective fields. They will focus on topics such as Alaskan history, etiquette, and cross cultural communication. These workshops promise to offer a valuable and informative overview of Alaskan Native Cultures. APTE’S LAST Summer Institutes The planning for APTE’s last Summer Institutes is in full swing! Marketing packets were mailed to our Partner Schools on December 17th, 2004, and our Partner District schools on January 14th, 2005. Our twelve secondary and rural partner schools have until February 4th, 2005 to register for their confirmed slots in the rural Content Institutes. On February 7th, 2005 the remaining slots will be available for our Partner district schools. See the flyer on page two of this Newsletter for more details!
