T he high heat input welding thermal simulation test w as conducted in 100 kJ/ cm heat input at 1 400 top temperature b using thermal simulator MM S-300. T he microstructure w as observed, and the effect of number, size, distribution and composition of ox ide inclusions on the formation of acicular ferrite in coarse grain heat affected zone ( CGHAZ) w as studied w ith optical microscope ( OM) , scanning electron microscop ( SEM) , energ dispersive spectrometer ( EDS) and electron probe micro-anal zer ( EPMA) . The results showed that the fraction of acicular ferrite in CGHAZ increases w ith the number and area fraction of ox ide inclusions. Acicular ferrite forms on Ti, Zr complex inclusions, the inclusions are mostl Ti, Zr ox ide as the core, and MnS precipitates on the surfa
