In this form, dramatic performance requires its unique expressiveness. Some of the predecessors of the performing arts have put forward the corresponding theory and have done a lot of research and practice. In the teaching of performing arts in higher art colleges, the development of teaching activities is mainly based on this kind of small theatre. Then, what are the similarities and differences between it and regular small theater performances? What is the benefit of this form of teaching? This is the problem studied in this paper. Key words: small theater performance; higher education; teaching The teaching activities of performing arts in higher art colleges are different from those of other majors. They have strong characteristics of their own specialties, which bring a series of unique requirements, such as the teaching environment, the requirements of teaching places and so on. The application of teaching methods in small theatre is a kind of situation in which the performance specialty is more widely used in teaching. Then, what is the interest of this kind of teaching? How to apply this method to achieve the best teaching effect? The author will discuss this. The small theatre, as a specific space for the aesthetic activities of the theatre, is, as the name suggests, relatively large in space, and the theatre is often much smaller. Some people have made the comparison, the ancient Greek theatre of Dionysus, and performing with the circle (Orchestra dance field) up to 66 feet in diameter, the stands can accommodate 14000 to 17000 spectators. Modern general theater, the stage area of more than 200 to 600 square meters, the audience seats up to 1000 to 1500. But the modern small theater can hold the audience mostly only 100 to 300 people
