Minimum time required f r acquisiti n and in culati n f geminiviruses by the whitefly is 15- 30 min. Geminiviruses may be retained in their vect r f r ne t several weeks, and s metimes f r the entire life f the vect r. Transmissi n efficiency increases with increase f acquisiti n time and in culati n time, r increase f the number f whiteflies used f r in culati n and virus c ncentrati n. M re ver, the efficiency f transmissi n varies with age and gender f the insect vect r.
