Moreover, the seism ic re- sponse and the contributions to seism ic response by d ifferent vibration modes of the isolated tank are discussed un- der earthquake ground motions w ith d ifferent frequency spectrum characteristics, especially the relation bewt een peak seism ic response and the isolation frequency, damp ing of the isolation bearing. The results show that the peak of base shear is associatedw ith the frequency spectrum characteristics of earthquake ground motions. The isolation frequency of bearing can not represent the nature of the base isolation, but the frequency of isolation mode is a pr-i mary param eter for determ in ing the base shear. The base isolation is less effective for the isolated tank on soft site and the effective range of the isolation frequency is narrow er. The frequency characteristics of the tank and the fre- quency spectrum characteristics of earthquake w aves resu lt in the peak of slosh ing height. Furthermore, the influ- ence of the slosh
