Orthodonticstown message board A Little Help With Tipping a Stubborn Canine gnahirney | Total Posts: 33 | Member Since: 3/14/2005 | Posted: 8/7/2005 8:46:49 AM | Post 1 of 21 I need some advice on how to achieve proper angulation of a maxillary canine. I am working on a case where the maxillary lateral incisors were congenitally missing and the canines erupted in a mesial position. The patient is a 30-year-old male with a Class I dental and skeletal relation. I have moved the canines to the correct position. There appears to be adequate space for two implants, except for the fact that the root of the upper left canine has not moved distal enough yet. How can I correct the angulation of this tooth without supra-erupting the central incisors (there is already 2.5 mm of overbite). meshuguna | Total Posts: 747 | Member Since: 5/6/2002 | Posted: 8/7/2005 11:44:17 AM | Post 2 of 21 Second order bend in the wire will be big help. str8wire | Jonathan Suzuki, DMD, MSc, FRCD(c) | Orthodontist | Total Posts: 338 | Member Since: 3/3/2004 | Location: Vancouver, Canada | Posted: 8/7/2005 11:57:26 AM | Post 3 of 21 Simple, reposition the bracket on the canine to get the root movement you desire. Use a NiTi wire to engage the tooth (stainless will be too stiff). gnahirney | Total Posts: 33 | Member Since: 3/14/2005 | Posted: 8/7/2005 12:02:49 PM | Post 5 of 21 Does it work better to place a second order bend or to reposition the bracket? If the bracket is changed and NiTi archwire placed, how long would you estimate the correction to take? (The tooth had to move about 6 mm from its initial position.) How could I have avoided this situation? str8wire | Jonathan Suzuki, DMD, MSc, FRCD(c)
