I nstitute of Biomedica E ng ineering , Jiangsu University , Zhenj iang , Jiangsu 212013, China Abstract In order t o avoid mechanical wear and to achieve durabil ity , most of blood pumps are devised with elect romagnetically suspended t echnology . However, it is problematic for blood pump. T his paper introduces a permanent Maglev impeller blood pump with a novel passive magnetic bearing, which consists of two magnet ic rings wit h diff erent dimensions, located concentrically in the same direction of magnetizat ion. This bearings have both funct ions of a radial bearing and an ax ial spring. Analyzing the stability of impeller blood pump by measuring the rotor position of the blood pump, the results show that the higher t he rot ating speed is, the more stable t he pump is; and t he higher t he pump f low rate is, the more stable the rotor is; and the smaller the airgap is, the more stable t he sy stem is. Besides, the traditional passive magnetic bearings have been cert ified to be worse than the authors novel permeanent magnet ic bearings in achieving the rotat ing stability .
