The Dehumanization of the Machinery Civilization in Lady Chatterleys Lover Abstract:：In Lady Chatterleys Lover,D.H.Lawrence had expressed his hostility towards the dehumanization of the machinery civilization.In this paper,I will firstly introduce the corresponding social background at the age in which Lawrence lived.Then I would like to deal with the specific manifestation of the dehumanization of the machinery civilization in this book. Key Words：industrialization machinery civilization dehumanization Social Background From the 18th to the 19th century,the industrial revolution which began in Briton brought great major changes to Briton and had a profound effect on the social,economical and cultural conditions of the times.By the late 19th century,industrialization and the ensuing machinery civilization spread all over Britain in the age D.H.Lawrence lived in From many capitalists perspective of views,it was a great and prosperous time,promoting the development of the whole society and human beings living standards.Britain enjoyed enormous economic growth and then became the most powerful industrial country in the world. While some other people criticized the negative impacts which this machinery civilization had brought upon social lives.They maintained that it generated severe environmental pollution and broke the balance and coexistence between human beings and nature.It enslaved human beings in the prison of money and fame,with them “in craving for prostitution to the bitch-goddess”.Furthermore,it repressed human beings nature and separated the mind from the body,destroying our integrity and wholeness as human beings. The Dehumanization of the Machinery Civilization in This Novel ?Image of the Industrial Society In Chapter 2,Lawrence described Wragby and the Tevershall pit-bank as a rather gloomy picture—— environmentally severely polluted,without any vitality and extremely dreary.The air was never fresh and the sky was never c
