And the evening and the morning were the first day. John Lyly (1553-1606) 1) Euphues Lyly was born in a scholars family. He was one of the university wits. He wrote poetry, court comedies and prose romances. As a prose writer, he was famous for his prose romance Euphues. The work Euphues contains two parts. The first is entitled Euphues or the Anatomy of Wit; the second part is called Euphues and His England. Writing Style of Euphues Euphues was written in a peculiar style known as Euphuism. This kind of style consists of two distinct elements. The first is abundant use of balanced sentences, alliterations and other artificial prosodic means.
