Tagquestions (Tag Question)
Additional questions have the following four forms:
Positive statement + negative tagquestion That clock is slow, isn t it?
Negative statements + certainly questions That clock isn t slow, is it?
Positive statement + positive questions That clock is slow, is it?
Negative statements + negative tagquestion That clock isn t slow isn, t it?
The two is the main, the two forms only in the context of a particular expression.
Additional questions can also be made from imperative sentence + additional questions
E.g. Carry this parcel for me, will you?
Remember to buy some meat, won t you?
A) when the statement subject sentence is part of the everybody, everyone, someone, no, one, nobody, somebody and other words refers to a synthesis of the people, part of the tag question is commonly used in formal subject in he.
E.g. Everybody knows what he has to do, doesn t he?
Nobody wants to go there, does he?
None of the boys can do it, can he?
In informal English, often using they.
E.g. Nobody phoned while I was out, did they?
Everyone enjoyed the party, didn t they?
Somebody borrowed my pen yesterday, didn t they?
But if the statement of the subject is everything, anything, something, nothing refers to a synthesis of the word, only the subject part of the tag question by it. E.g. Nothing could make me give it up, could it?
Everything is ready, isn t it?
B) when the statement part is there- sentence, interrogative part of subject with ~there? E.g.
There s no help for it, is there?
There s something isn wrong, t there?
C) statement with seldom, hardly, never, rarely, few, little, nowhere, nothing and other negative words or half negative words, additional questions certainly form part of the verb.
E.g. Bob hardly got drunk, did he?
There is little time, is there?
She never goes to the cinema, does she?
If a negative word statement only negative prefixes, then the statement when the affirmative, interrogative part is still in the negative
