Lecture Eight Translation of Long Sentences with Division ;I. A principle over division:;II. Punctuation marks and sentence division;1. Clauses of interrogation.;2. Clauses of exemplification. Here belong the expressions “take sth. (for example or instance)” and “let’s take A to illustrate B”.;3. Clauses of generalization. Such sentence patterns as “This or That plus linking verb be”, “This or That can be described (or defined) as…” and “This shows…” fall in this category. ;To separate internationalist content from national form is the practice of those who do not understand the first thing about internationalism. We, on the contrary, must link the two closely. ;Often the result is “A thousand words from the pen in a stream, but ten thousand li away from the theme”. Talented as these writers may appear, they actually harm people. ;For ex. 我们的政策是实行“一个国家,两种制度”, 具体地说,就是在中华人民共和国内,十亿人口的大陆实行社会主义制度,香港、台湾实行资本主义制度。 ;III.
