There had been something in… it is quite good and should be considered seriously; it has some value or truth, even if this seems unlikely. pejorative disparaging, derogatory (a word, phrase) expressing contempt or disapproval I didnt think he is using inequality in a pejorative sense. facetious adj. trying to appear amusing and intelligent at a time when other people do not think it is appropriate, and when it would be better to be serious; flippant: a facetious comment / remark Stop being facetious; this is serious. The phrase …… lower classes: The phrase, the King’s English, has always been used disparagingly (disrespectfully) and jokingly by the lower classes. The working people very often make fun of the proper and formal language of the educated people. Speak with the vigor of the ordinary folk Euphemism Carelessness of the ordinary people If the King’s English……should be spoken: The educated people (teachers, grammarians, etc.) insist that one must use the King’s English, i.e. speak English as it should be spoken.
