Besides continuous surface rupture and a large number of properties collapse, the t pes of geohazards in- duced b earthquake include rock fall, landslide, potential debris flow, etc. In addition, the geohazards can be ag- gravated b the earthquake-induced sand soil liquefaction, as well as burst of a channel, in local areas. Based on field investigation and comparison of the geohazard data before and after theYushu earthquake, the authors summ a- rize themajor characteristics of theYushuM S 71 earthquake, such as the amount of geohazard increasing obviousl after the earthquake, the distribution of geohazards controlled b the active fau lts, the low-position soil/colluvial landslides predom inant, the effect of geohazard chain being notab le, etc. some proposals for geohazard control during reconstruction have been given forth in th is paper.
