These curves, called conic sections, are the s e c t i o n parabola, circle, ellipse, and hyperbola. You studied parabolas in Section 3.6, but in Developing the Equation this section you will study parabolas in more detail. You will see how the parabola and the other conic sections are used in applications such as satellite dishes, Identifying the Vertex from Standard Form telescopes, spotlights, and navigation.
