南洋理工大学王赓武图书馆早期课本特藏的建立、保存和推广应用 阮阳 中文图书馆主管 兼 王赓武图书馆主管 南洋理工大学 ruanyang@.sg 罗必明 王赓武图书馆馆员 南洋理工大学 bmluo@.sg English Abstract It has been a fine and never-forgotten tradition for the Chinese nation to value education since the ancient times. Overseas Chinese also inherited and carried forward the tradition while they endured great hardships and plowed the earth in pioneering work. Study of overseas Chinese education not only helps us to understand the change of overseas Chinese status in economic and political terms, but also helps clarify overseas Chinese identity and understanding of Chinese culture transmutation. Textbooks, as an indispensable tool for teaching and information carriers, provide important information about the study of overseas Chinese education. The Early Textbook Collection of Wang Gung Wu Library, Nanyang Technological University was created for this purpose. Benefitting from donors such as the Indonesian Chinese Professor Wen Dai Kui and Nanyang Girls High School, and Singapore Chinese High School, the current collection has more than 2000 text books from the early twentieth century to the sixties and seventies used in mainland China and Southeast Asia. Subjects include Chinese, English, Malay, history, geography, mathematics, physics, civics, etc. Based on a brief review of the development history of Chinese textbooks used in Southeast Asia, and Wang Gung Wu Library’s development history, this paper shares the experiences of collation, preservation and promotion of this special collection, including: how to establish the special collection chambe
