Clinical and Experiment study of Huayutongmai Decoction in
Treating Cerebral Arteriosclerosis

Abstract
Objective ：To study the clinical effects and operating mechanism of Huayutongmai
decoction in treating cerebral arteriosclerosis. Methods: Clinical study collected 60
cases, and its period of treatment was 8 weeks.We randomly selected 30 cases of
Huayutongmai decoction and 30 cases of taking Naoxintong capsule，observing its effects
on syndrome integral changes of patients with cerebral arteriosclerosis Chinese phlegm
and blood stasis Resistance, and tetecting simultaneously serum lipids, blood rheology,
serum homocysteine (HCY) and transcranial Doppler (TCD).Experimental study of
selected male health New Zealand 40 rabbits which were randomly divided into four
groups: control group, model group, Naoxintong group, Huayutongmai group, and each
group had 10 rabbits. Using methods of immunity damage and high-fat diet,we established
model of rabbit’s cerebral arteriosclerosis. At different stages in the experiment, we
measured model rabbit’s serum lipids, serum superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and
malondialdehyde (MDA) content. Using light microscope we observed the common
carotid artery pathologic changes, and determined the carotid artery vascular cell adhesion
molecule-1 (VCAM-1) expression by immunohistochemical method.Results:Clinical
study showing: Huayutongmai decoction can obviously improve symptoms in patients with
cerebral arteriosclerosis
