College of Life Science, So th China Normal University, G angzho 510631, China) Abstract: In the co rse of working on the monogenea of marine fishes, many benedeniine cap salid specimens were collected from different hosts. The taxonomy sit ation of some specimens is ncertain when their morphological characteristics are examined. By sing PCR directed se q encing, partial ITS1 seq ences of Benedenia sargocentron collected from Sargocentron sp infi erum, Neobenedenia melleni from Ep inephelus awoara, Neobenedenia sp. 1 obtained from E . akaara and Neobenedenia sp. 2 from Lujtanus sanguineus , have been tested and analyzed. The res lts demonstrated that Neobenedenia sp. 1, Neobenedenia sp. 2 and N . melleni are very likely the same species since their ITS1 seq ences are almost identical, with a difference of 07% . The difference of seq ences between Benedenia sargocentron and Neobenedenia spp. is 33% . These res lts remedy the deficiency in the morphologica
