However, due to the development of computer technology, the 3-D finite element method can be applied to flexible pavement analyses. This is because 3-D finite element analysis needs faster CPU speed, larger capacity of memory and hardisk. This paper uses the famous finite element analytic program ABAQUS to construct a flexible pavement system. The study can be divided into two parts: the establishment of the ABAQUS model and the verification of the ABAQUS model. The analysis results indicate that the length of the pavements must be at least 20 times the length of the loading area. The interfaces of layers are assumed to be bonded perfectly, and the 3-D solid elements use C3D20R type and 3-D infinite elements use CIN3D18R type.
