Section 1 multilingual trends and implications
With the development of computer technology and communication equipment and transport fast, between people, between country and country naturally disappear in the invisible barrier, making communication, transnational commercial, political or academic interpersonal communication activities become inevitable frequently, learning and application of so many languages (Multilingualism) to has become the inevitable trend of the world. Thus, in the East Asian countries where the international trade is the main economic resource, the multi language education policy has become one of the focuses of every Asian countrys efforts.
Prior to 60s, multilingual learning was not an accepted and encouraged teaching activity. At the time, it was generally agreed that learning two languages would be detrimental to the childs cognitive ability because the two languages were independent in their studies and that knowledge of one language would not be transferred to another. Such as Hakuta (1990) that the two languages are completely different systems, when learning a second language, involves not only never learn composition, and due to the second language, the first language acquisition is not complete. In short, two languages interfere with one anothers learning.
However, some scholars believe that although the knowledge of two languages is separate from each other, they do not interfere with each other. Some studies have shown that people who are familiar with two languages usually have higher cognitive abilities than those who use only one language.
