《围城》中文化词的英译策略摘要本文将探讨《围城》中文化词的英译策略。通过对钱钟书先生的著作《围城》及珍妮.凯利和茅国权共同翻译的英译本进行评价，本文将《围城》中的中国特色文化词进行分类，并以实例阐释其在英译本中运用的翻译策略，得出结论该英译本以异化为主，归化为辅；这两种翻译策略表面上看似相互矛盾，实质上却相辅相成；异化和归化的有机结合，才能使译著保持中国特色文化，令西方文化读者便于理解、领会作品的深层意义。关键词：《围城》，文化词；异化；归化ABSTRACTThis paper aims to explore thetranslation strategies of culture-loaded words in Fortress Besieged.Based on the comments of the novel Fortress Besieged written by Qian Zhongshu and its English version translated by Jeanne Kelly and Nathan K.Mao, the paper classifies the culture-loadedwords in Fortress Besieged and analyzes the translation strategies with detailed examples. In conclusion, the paper finds that the two translators have employed foreignization as the main translation strategy and domestication as the supplementary strategy; these two strategies seem to be contradictory on the surface, but complementary in essence; and the proper combination of foreignization and domestication can help keep the unique Chinese culture in the translated version and make the westerners better perceive its profoundmeaning.Keywords：Fortress Besieged; culture-loaded words; foreignization; domestication1．IntroductionLanguage is the product of culture, and meanwhile language reflects and develops culture; words are the most important components of the language, and with the development of society and language, many words are embedded with culture; on the other hand, as the Chinese famous translator Wang Zuoliang says: “a translator must be, in the real sense, a manwith culture awareness.” [1] Therefore, translation has a close connection with culture, especially when translating culture-loaded words.
