Dep artment of Phy sics, N ortheast N ormal University , Changchun 1 0021, China) Abstract:An enhancement algorithm of radiography based on multiscale Retinex w as presented. The three different Gaussian filter coefficients under three different deviations w ere calculated, and the convolution operation w as implemented betw een the image distribution and Gaussian filters, a w eigh- ted average of multiscale w as gained and mapped to gray range of display device. With this method, image contrast enhancement, sharpening and dynamic range compression w ere achieved at the same time. The information of hidden area of digital radiograph w as obviously enhanced. The enhancement technique w as compared w ith other techniques such as histogram equalization, homomorphic filter. The results of experiment show that MS R can more observably improve entropy of digital X-rays than other techniques, and also show that the algorithm can overcome the lack of enhancement of tradition- al digital X-rays methods and satisfy the clinic demand.
