Unit 1 Cultural relics Jokes1 Belgium A man in Belgium was arrested because police suspected that he had robbed a jewelry store. The man swore he did not do it. When the police asked if he had an alibi, he explained that he had been busy breaking into a school at the same time. Police dropped the jewelry store charges and instead arrested him for breaking into the school. A man and his girlfriend were robbing a convenience store. While waiting for her boyfriend to finish getting the money, the woman noticed a contest entry form. Thinking it would be cool to win, she filled out the form, complete with her name, address, and phone number. A few hours later the police were at the couples house to arrest them. Joke2 Why did the police arrest the persons mentioned in the passage? The persons in the jokes are so stupid. They told the police what they did and left a lot of information about themselves to the police. In other words, the police got some evidence from them. What is an opinion? 2. What is evidence? 3. Which is more important for the judge in a trial, the evidence or the opinion? An opinion is what someone believes is true but has not been proved. Evidence is a fact, which can be proved.
