Limit pressures for thick wall cylinders
based on the triple shear unified failure criterion

Abstract : New unified limit pressure solutions for thick w all cylinders are obtained w ith the triple shear
unified failure criterion. Solutions based on the Mohr- Coulomb failure criterion, the Tresca yield crite-
rion and the Von Mises yield criterion are all its special cases. Analyses indicate that the limit pressures
of the thick w all cylinders are influenced by ratio of the tensile to compressive yield limits ( a) and effec-
tive parameter of the intermediate principal stress ( b ) . The elastic and the plastic inner limit pressures
increased w ith b and decrease w ith a , but the outer limit pressures are reverse to them.
