The Research Field of Historiography of Technology and Its Signifi cance

Abstract: By examining the traditional researches onthe history of technology through contextual analysis,
the paper explains the academic standard, the research field and the feature of historiography of technology
from the ontological, epistemological and methodological perspectives. It also illuminates what the history of
technology should study, how it should be understood and how research in this fi eld should be done. Finally, the
article demonstrates the theoretical and practical significance ofhistoriography of technology to the history of
technology.
