Microalloyed high strength steels such as pipeline steel usually deoxidized with Al and alloyed with Ti. Due to the complicated interaction between Al, Ti, O, S, Mn, and Ca or Mg in liquid steel, it is difficult to control the composition, size and quantity of inclusions. To clarify the formation mechanism of beneficial inclusions and make use of their benefit effects on microstructure refinement of steels, the inclusions’ properties and the relationship between inclusions and the microstructures of Al-Ti complex deoxidized Ca or Mg treated microalloyed steels were investigated. Large amount of finely dispersed complex inclusions composed oxides core and MnS shell in steels with relative low Al can be obtained comparing with the relative smaller amount of Al O -CaO or Al O -MgO inclusions in high Al steels. The Al O -TiO -CaO
