6 Afterwards Once you have completed your dissertation, and undertaken your oral examination if appropriate, there is little more you can do other than to wait for the result. If you have followed this handbook carefully, and you have put in some hard work and diligent thinking, then you should have done very well, and may be now thinking of ways of pursuing this kind of research further. If not, then you may be thinking of how you can redress the situation. Either way, some advice on what to do after the dis- sertation follows. Also included here is some advice about what to do if something has gone badly wrong during the research process, or if you have been faced with other, unavoidable difficulties. Further Research and Study Depending on the kind of degree you have just undertaken, there are a number of different courses, which you might consider taking in order to further your studies and development in the area of architectural history, theory and writing. To find out about these, you can consult the various listings of courses, which will be available in your campus careers office. Many universities also give details of their courses on the Internet. In general, however, there are a number of distinct different kinds of programme, which you might consider. ● Specialist first degrees. Many art history courses offer a substantial architectural component, although you should always double-check exactly what is on offer, as this can vary greatly from year to year.
