It has a great success in the interpretation of the planetary orbits in the solar system, but has encountered insurmountable difficulties to explain Mercury’s precession and deflection of light ray. It also can not to meet the Lorentz covariance of special relativity, and failed to unify with electromagnetism theory. We have re-examined the history of discovery of the Newtonian gravitational law, compared the Newtonian gravitational law with Maxwell electromagnetic theory by considering the contribution of the relative velocity and relative acceleration to the gravitational field, and found that Newtonian law of gravitation is the limitation or approximation of retarded gravitation in the case of zero velocity. The zero-speed approximation obscures the Newtonian gravity’s nature that gravity travels at the speed of light. Observational data of Earth tide are well agreed with the Newtonian gravitational law, it is the direct evidences that the gravity travels at the speed of light.
