Willis once said that tasks are activities where the target language is used by the learner for a communicative purpose in order to achieve an outcome. Therefore, task-based language teaching will be adopted in this period. In addition, Wang Qiang points out that the main focus in a reading class is developing students’ reading skills. To fulfill that, the three stage model will be used here, namely pre-reading, while-reading, and post-reading.

The reading passage is Anne’s Best Friend, from Unit one, Book one. The topics of this unit are friends, friendship and interpersonal relationships. This passage is about the story of Anne, a Jewish girl, who treated her dairy as her best friend during WWⅡ. It consists of two parts; the introduction and the diary entry written by Anne in the form of letter. Anne confided her longings for a normal life and close contact with nature to the diary which accompanied her through the days. The diary gave a glimpse of her life in her family’s shelter in Amsterdam from the German Nazis’ killing. Students should learn that not only person can be human’s friend. Besides, the topic friendship is more deeply explored. The passage is not very difficult though it includes some new words and phrases.

The Ss of my class are from Grade One in a key senior high school in Zhejiang province. In terms of their cognitive abilities, they have a large vocabulary, and they have mastered some reading skills. In terms of their learning style, they are interested in group work, so they will be easily activated by discussion.
