To determine the limit value of the axial compression ratio for S. R . C. columns , the paper discusses why the yielding of the tensile steel bars at the lateral side is the basis of balance fail ure . The paper defines the shear wall with short piers that belongs to the shear wall with combined piers , if the wall thickness is not less than 200 mm ,the cross section depth of piers is small as possible and it can α ζ
