This work is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution International License (CC BY). /licenses/by/4.0/ Abstract Historical buildings are important historical and cultural heritage in our country, in which timber buildings are the main structural styles. Timber beams experience destruction of decay, fracture, and pulling out during the service. So it is necessary to reinforce the beams of historical buildings. Many existing reinforcement methods have a good effect to a certain extent, but they all have li- mitations and cannot be widely used. The method of reinforcing beams using self-tapping screws has a good reinforcement effect and no effect on the external appearance. However before widely used in reinforcing historical building beams, there is a need for further deeply study.
