Good human resources management is essential for retaining staff and maintaining a high level of performance within an organization. A responsive human resources management system can help ensure that employees know what they are supposed to do, get timely feedback, feel valued and respected, and have opportunities to learn and grow on the job The Definition or HRM The term “human resources” implies that people have capabilities that drive organizational performance. Other terms such as “human capital” and “intellectual assets” all have in common the idea that people make the difference in how an organization performs. 1. Human Resources Management (HRM) consists of all the organizational activities which directed at attracting, developing, and maintaining an effective work force. It concerned with getting, training, motivating, and keeping competent employees. 2. HRM include all the activities involved in planning, acquiring, maintaining, developing, and appraising an organization’s human resources. The Tasks of HRM The Tasks of HRM include: Balancing the supply of employees with the demand for employees; Providing employees with up-to-date knowledge and skills to do their job; Matching the talents and skills of employees with those required by the organization; Creating a working environment the fosters high employee performance; Ensuring that competent employees are identified and selected, and ensuring that the organization retains competent and high-performing employees. Why HRM is so important? HRM is a necessary function of management to select, train, and evaluate the work force; It also adds value to the organization.
