It was used in many construction materials because of its excellent insulation, fire proofing and sound proofing qualities. Asbestos is a known carcinogen and is thus a regulated substance. Asbestos must be removed by a licensed asbestos contractor if it is to be disturbed during renovation or demolition activities.
