However, researchers have found that only less than 20% of mRNA levels correlate with their respective protein amounts. Why is that? As it turned out, there are these small RNA molecules, miRNA or siRNA that acted upon the mRNA molecules to repress the downstream protein expression activities via various mechanisms.
