社 ＊ 從告於廟 到告成天下 ──清代西北邊疆平定的禮儀重建 From Praying to the Ancestors and the Heaven and Earth to Declaration to the People:Reconstruction of the Celebration for Pacifying the Northwest Frontier of the Qing Dynasty ZHU Yuqi Abstract ：Battles for restoring the peace of the northwest frontier stretched over the r eign p eriods of Kangxi , Yongzh eng and Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, and grand celebration was held for each triumph of the army. Such celebrations consist of two parts. First, according to the traditional Chi- nese military rites, monumental inscription should be erected on the spot where a de- finitive victory was achieved in the frontier war. In the capital, at the altars to the an- cestors and the Heaven and Earth, memorial ceremony and captives offering rite were staged. Second, in line with the ideal system specified in the Confucian Classic The Book of Rites, worship ritual should be held in the Confucian temple of Guozij ian i.e. the highest educational administration in feudal China i.e. a stele for , and a Gaocheng stele declaring the victory should be set up. This stele shows the reconstruction of the mili- tary rites of the Qing Dynasty. It declares to the intellect elites of the Han nationality about the new frontier and ethnic groups through the dual educational system combin- ing with central and local Confucian temples and officially recognized schools.
