莆田市概况An survey of Putian 莆田市地处福建省沿海中部，北连福州，南接泉州，西依戴云山脉，东南濒临台湾海峡。现辖仙游县、荔城区、城厢区、涵江区、秀屿区、湄洲岛国家旅游度假区管委会和湄洲湾北岸经济开发区管委会。陆域面积4119平方公里，海域面积1.12万平方公里，常住人口277.9万人，华侨、华裔及港、澳、台同胞60多万人。拥有福建境内四大平原之一的兴化平原和“世界不多、中国少有”的湄洲湾秀屿深水良港。湄洲湾、兴化湾、平海湾三大海湾，分布着湄洲岛、南日岛等150多个岛屿。是一座物华天宝、人杰地灵、文化昌盛、经济繁荣的新兴港口城市。 Putian is located on the middle of Fujian costal area. It is bounded on the north by Fuzhou; on the south by Quanzhou; on the west by Daiyun Mountain; and on the southeast by the Taiwan Strait. It has Xianyou County, Licheng district, Chengxiang district, Hanjiang district, Xiuyu district and Meizhou Island national resort district administrative commission and the administrative commission of north coast of Meizhou bay economic development zone. Its land surface is 4119 km2 and the sea surface is 1,120,000 km2. And it has a residential population of 2,779,000, including more than 600,000 Chinese from abroad, HK, Macau and Taiwan. Putian has one of the four biggest plains----Xinghua Plain. Also it has Meizhou bay Xiuyu deep water harbour which is famous as “rare in the world and infrequent in china”. There are more than 150 islands distributed around Meizhou bay, xinghua bay and Pinghai bay. In a word, Putian is a new uprising harbor city full of capability and energy and with flourishing economy, stable political situation and prosperous culture. 莆田市古称“兴化”，历史悠久、人文璀璨、风光旖旎、古迹众多，素有“海滨邹鲁、文献名邦”之美称。莆田是福建历史文化名城，全市现存各级文物保护单位和重要文物点800多处。妈祖信俗是中国首个世界信俗类非物质文化遗产，仙游是中国首个梦文化之乡。全市主要旅游景区有湄洲岛国家旅游度假区、妈祖工艺美术城、九鲤湖、南少林、九龙谷、菜溪岩、永兴岩、广化寺、白塘湖等。妈祖文化游是全省十大旅游品牌之一，莆田是中国青年喜爱的海西旅游目的地。 Putian was called “Xinghua” in ancient times.
