The movement of the spot across the screen is controlled by the line scan signal. Each time the spot reaches the right side of the screen, it is blanked and moved rapidly back to the left side ready to start the next line. This rapid movement back to a starting position is known as fly-back. Each complete image or frame requires a minimum of 500 lines to give a picture of acceptable quality.
