Thanksgiving Day is a unique American fesitval, which started in 1621,and in 1863,President Lincoln made each year the fourth Thursday of the November is the Thanksgiving Day. The start of Thanksgiving Day The settlers, who have since come to be called the Pilgrims(清教徒), had left their native England.In 1620, they sailed to America on the Mayflower , seeking a place where they could have freedom of worship .During their first winter, over half of the settlers died of starvation or epidemics(流行病).However with help of Indians,they overcame the difficulties.The next year,they were healthy and had enough food.They wanted to thank the Indians so they invited them to the special feast.The Pilgrims believed in God,and thanked God for helping them.From then on,they began to ?commemorate this special day. Family Reunion and Feasting Family feast is an important tradition during Thanksgiving. The whole family sits at the table during dinner and offer prayer to the God for his continuous grace(恩典). It is also a time for relatives living in different places to come together and celebrate.
