H eilongjiang University, H arbin 150086, China) Abs tract: Based on the remote sensing ( RS) and geographical information system ( G IS), the thermal infrared re- mote sensing mi age ( Landsat ETM + ) w asused to retrieve the ground brightness temperature and calculate vegeta- tion index. The relationship between vegetation fraction and spatial d istribution of ground brightness temperature w as stud ied by analyzing the section , the correlation of island effect w ith several index w as studied by multiple re- gression analysis. The result show s that the heat island effect in Daow aiD istrict is severe, the situation ofDaoli and X iangfang d istricts is alsow orse and; the scope of the heat island effect is bigger andmainly concentrates along rai-l w ay; the correlation of ground brightness temperature and vegetation fraction w as negative; the area of vegetatio
