ABSTRACT This thesis will make a study about Carrie’s character and the internal and factors that affect Carrie’s character in Carrie Sister which is written by Theodore Dreiser. This thesis divides Carrie’s character into positive aspect and negative aspect. The positive aspect of Carrie’s character is her innocence, simplicity, diligence, enterprising and independence; the negative aspect of Carrie’s character is her vanity and endless desire. Carrie’s character is affected by both internal and external factors. The internal factors that affect Carrie’s character is her understanding of life and her growing of independent consciousness; the external factors that affect Carrie’s character is the social reality and the influence of the two men Carrie meets.
