PAGE 1 Experimental Study of QGBII for Prevention of Glucocorticoid-induced Osteoporosis on Markers of Biochemical and Histomorphologic measurement in Rats Major:Orthopaedics and Traumatology of TCM Postgraduate:Qiao Yongping Tutor:Prof. Zhang Anzhen ABSTRACT Objective:To investigate the prophylaxis effect of qianggubao II(QGBII)on glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis in rats by measuring biochemical markers and histomorphologic measurement. Methods: 56 male SD rats were randomly divided into normal group,control group,QBG group and GuSongBao(GSB) group,14 each group.The rats in control ,QGB and GSB groups were given prednisone(4.5mg/kg),twice one week, and the rats in QGB and GSB groups were administrated QGBII and GSB respectively from baseline,and the rats in control and normal groups were given NS from baseline.The rats were killed after 8 weeks and 13 weeks to measure biochemical markers, take histomorphologic measurement and observe microscopic and ultrastructure of bone. Results:the levels of urinary calcium and hydroproline were significantly higher in control group than those in other three groups(p0.05),and the serum calcium and phosphate didnt show significantly diffirence among all groups;serum levels of BGP and T were lower in the control group than in the normal group(p0.05),and the above markers in the QGB and GSB groups were statisticaly significantly higher than those in the control group,and serum AKP were similar in all groups;serum PTH in the control group was higher than that in other three groups(p0.05); the parameters of bone mass and bone formation decreased significantly in the control group than in the normal group(p0.05),and such parameters in the QGB and GSB groups increased statistically than those in the control group,but not reached the value of the normal group,the control group showed increase of value of parameter of bone resorption compared with that in the normal group and GSB group also showed higher value of parameters o
