Learning using vocabulary by grouping words Principles Chinese students sometimes would like to learn words in words lists by rote through repetition. Principle 1 learn words through actively using them in meaningful contexts Principle 2 encourage learners to put words into groups so that words are associated together in different ways Methods Method 1 mental pictures using the target words or to associate them with sounds, images, photos and mnemonics applicable to some words with humorous, personal or unusual images so that the learners may think of the association to bring the target word to mind Methods Method 2 target words related to known words and sets of new word learnt together rather than treating them one by word in a list Examples 1.
