The combination of the techniques of optimization with the model experiment makes the designing and theoretical systems of the shearer drum more perfect .Key words :shearer drum;model experiment ;optimum design　The shearer drums serve as a main type of operating mechanism of the modern coal getting machines , this paper deals with the combination of the techniques of optimization and the model experiment ,which makes the designing and theoretical systems of shearer drums more perfect ,and the design more quality.1 Model Experiment of the Shearer DrumsThe parameters ,relevant to the cutting process of the shearer drum ,and dealt with in this paper ,are shown in Tab. 1. This model factor of length is 1∶4. The essential transformations have been taken in order to put the independent parameters just in the corresponding independent π terms. In our model experiment there are six independentπ terms :π1 = WR/ B ,π2 = D/ W ,π3 = S / W，π4 = V T/ W ,π5 = B Y/ W ,π2 = BN/ Wwhere ,T is time , s. The meanings of other symbols are shown in Tab. 1.In order to comprehensively look at the relationships between parameters , all the experiments are laid out as in Tab. 2.The datum value .π1 (i = 1 to 6) for everyπ term ,and in addition the second datum values //π1and //π2 forπ1 for π2 terms respectively are appointed.As a general index of drum efficiency , the specific energy Hω (MJ / m3 ) may be calculated by the follwing equationHω =Mω/DWV=πnM/30DWV, (1)Where ,ω is drum speed , rad/ s.
