E-Government Finance in China Jane Beckett-Camarata Department of political science, Kent State University, Kent, Ohio, USA Abstract Over the last decade, the Chinese government has adopted e-government finance, one of the most relevant and comprehensive e-government processes. E-government finance is not simply a matter of how technology can change government finance services, but also how the goal of e-government affects e-government finance service features that are implemented and used. This paper explores accessibility and availability of selected financial information posted on China’s state and local government web sites. The paper also assesses the presentation and explanation of that public finance information: What type of interactive e-government finance services(s) is (are) available on the website? What type of public finance information is available? How detailed is this information? I found that the emphasis of e-government finance in China is on efficiency and that emphasis affects the features of e-government finance. Key words E-government, finance, e-government process 1 Introduction The last decade has witnessed a global explosion of efforts designed to improve government service delivery through various e-government initiatives as many countries have attempted to transform their governmental structures and improve the quality of the services they provide. As a part of that movement, e-government has become a method for implementing administrative reform and it is clear that e-government has the potential to transform the way in which government operates and provides services. At a minimum, e-government can expand and extend the ability of government to serve their constituencies and to provide benefits to government and its citizens.
